Dubai is an ultramodern city. In appearance it is clean, safe,
and ultimately dynamic; a shrine to the ebb and flow of capitalism
at its best. Very little which is obsolete remains and markets
here tend to sell gold and electronics rather then more traditional
goods.

Dubai’s evolution has been dramatic, with sweeping skyscrapers
and gleaming office blocks rising up on the banks of the Creek.
Development has been well managed, with a structure and order
to the city that demonstrates that the oil wealth has been
well handled and channelled. The rulers of Dubai have a penchant
for grand projects – one year a new extension to the
port facilities, the next the world’s tallest purpose-built
hotel and now the Palm Islands, a massive project that will
bring 120km (75 miles) of new beachfront, as well as hotels,
villas, shopping malls, cinemas and Dubai’s first marine
park. Dubai seems to know no end to its ambition with new
plans constantly on the drawing board, to be the visitor an
unforgettable experience.

of Dubai city to the desert of golden sand dunes. You will
travel to the desert from your pick-up point in a luxury 4WD

Next, the Arabian roller coaster ride known as dune bashing
(desert driving) will begin, where you will shriek and laugh

As the sun descends into the horizon, we stop to allow you
to take sunset photographs, while standing on top of the fading
desert dunes. We now head to the campsite where a convoy of
camels awaits your arrival for short camel rides. After returning,
you can purchase some souvenirs before relaxing on a majlis
(low cushions) in traditional Bedouin tents. Enjoy an Arabian
BBQ (barbeque/barbecue) buffet dinner beside a blazing bonfire
with traditional cups of coffee and dates, underneath the
pitch-black night sky. You can also get more dressed for the
occasion by dressing in traditional Bedouin male or female
garments, and also have Henna (temporary tattoo) decorate
your hands, legs and feet and smoke flavored sheesha (hubbly-bubbly/water
pipe). Before we head back to Dubai, we will be entertained
by the dancing of a belly dancer to traditional Arabic music,
and you are welcome to join along.

Arabian nights. In the morning, we have breakfast at the camp

Hatta Safari (Wadi Bashing)
Start your day with a ride through the desert to the mountainous
region of Dubai known as Hatta. There, we drive through deep
trenches, where we see million year-old mountains of different
arrays of colors. We splash through the flowing waters of
the wadis (natural pools) during the drive, and visit a 16th
century fort and some agricultural farms. This is followed
by a visit to the Hatta Fort Hotel, where we can take a swim
and enjoy lunch before we head back to Dubai.

Standard Dubai City Tour
Our fascinating excursion through the city of Dubai, also
referred to as the City of Gold, where we will explore a contrast
between the past and present. The journey begins at the magnificent
Jumeirah mosque and continues along the Jumeira beach road,
which is the most luxurious urban area in Dubai. We pass in
front of the Mercato themed shopping mall and stop for photographs
at the Burj Al Arab (Arab Tower) hotel. We continue towards
the Nad Al Sheeba camel and horse race tracks, where we can
see camels coming and going on their training. We then head
along the skyscraper area of Sheikh Zayed Road, also referred
to as little Manhattan, where we pass by the Emirates Towers
and Dubai World Trade Center. Now heading along the Zabeel
road, we pass by the palace of Sheikh Mohammed, as well as
the Sheikh Rashid palace, which unfortunately we are not allowed
to photograph. We now head towards the Dubai creek, where
we will stop for photographs of the creek side. We pass by
the Al Bastakiya’s old-wind tower houses, which were
built by the wealthy merchants of the past. Our next stop
takes us to the historical Al Fahidi Fort, which has been
converted into the Dubai Museum. The Museum is the 200 year-old
restored Palace of Sheikh Saeed, which has important records
of pearl diving and trading activities that went on. The tour
takes us to the Abra station, where we will take an Abra (water
ferry) to cross to the opposite side of the creek, as was
done in the not so distant past. We then set out on foot as
we navigate through the bustling alleys towards the spice
and gold souks (markets) as you see insight of Dubai’s
growth as a major trading center.
