Kolkata, meet and assist on arrival and transfer

Kolkata, formally Calcutta, the largest metropolis
in India is a vibrant city of joy, stretched
along the eastern bank of the Hoogly River (a
branch of the Ganges). Calcutta was the capital
of the British India till 1912 and still has
a Victorian imprint on its structures and streets.
A walk along the city streets will take you
on a journey through time. The stern old buildings
in the midst of new and more colourful ones,
tell you the story of the generations gone by
and more to come. A hub of activity in the fields
of arts, music, theatre and sports, the city
prides itself on the many luminaries it has
sent forth.

Breakfast morning city tour visiting
the flower market on the riverbanks in Howrah,
the impressive Howrah Bridge, the Victoria Memorial
and the Indian Museum, one of the largest of its
kind in India which houses a fine collection of
Indian art and relics of ancient civilizations.
In the evening we are invited to dine
with a local family at their residence.

| Day 3: Kolkata – Bagdogra

a short flight from Kolkata to Bagdora, meet and
assist on arrival and drive to Darjeeling, Approximately
96 Kms 4 ½ Hours.
Often called the queen of Hill stations Darjeeling,
centre of India’s most celebrated tea
growing district, has possibly the most picturesque
views among all Indian hill resorts.

morning drive to Tiger Hill famous for its magnificent
dawn view over Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga
peak, the third-highest mountain in the
world.
On the way back visit Ghoom Buddhist Monastery
which enshrines an image of Maitreya Buddha (the
coming Buddha), The Observatory, the Himalayan
Mountaineering Institute and a local Tea Estate

a ride on the "toy" train to Ghoom
or Kurseong, the slow speed gives you
enough time to watch and appreciate the beauty
which nature has provided it. This train passes
through the Forests, waterfalls, over deepvalleys
and through the mountains and tunnels

scenic drive from Darjeeling to Pelling Approximately

The pleasant little town of Pelling is famous
for magnificent view of the snow-capped mountains
of Kanchenjunga and other sister mountains.
Pelling is an ideal getaway as its vicinity
has numerous waterfalls, soft trek routes, villages
and a soothing atmosphere

Afternoon visit to Pemyangtse Monastery,
This is one of the oldest and most important
monasteries of Sikkim. Founded in 1705 and houses
numerous religious idols and other objects of
worship. On the top floor of the monastery there
is a wooden sculpture depicting the Maha Gurus
Heavenly Palace "Sanghthokpalri".
This master piece was completed by the late
Dungzin Rimpoche, who took five years to craft
it single handed.

| Day 7: Pelling - Gangtok |

from Pelling to Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim;
Approximately 116 Kms 5 Hours
Gangtok is a city, which, till one sees it,
one would believe exists only in picture-story
books. prayer flags whip in the breeze; wheels
spin in the hands of Lamas mumbling invocations
to God, surrounded by picturesque views of the
Himalayas
With different cultures and religion existing
in harmony, Gangtok has shown that "Unity
in Diversity" exists in Sikkim.

noted for its carved and painted woodwork and
later the Enchey Monastery and the Namgyalak Institute

breakfast take a short drive from Gangtok to Kalimpong
; Approximately 85 Kms 3 Hours.
It was ruled by Bhutan for 155 years, and was
annexed by the British only in 1865, after which
it flourished as a centre of wool trade with
Tibet. Here Buddhism rubs shoulders with Hinduism
and Christianity
Kalimpong, set among the rolling foothills
and deep valleys of the Himalayas, is famous
for its flower market, especially the wide array
of orchids. It also houses several Buddhist
monasteries which hold a number of rare Tibetan
Buddhist scriptures.
